Reviews and Ratings
The hotel definitely needs some updating as the rooms are old-fashioned, and neither the sauna nor the steam room were working. However, the staff, despite working in a place that needs improvement, were always happy, helpful, and welcoming. The location is central to most of the historic occurrences in Lewes, but it lacks proper lighting and could use some modernization. The dining experience was not perfect with a chilly conservatory for meals, but the beef dishes were enjoyable.
The hotel offers wide-ranging views over the river Ouse and downland countryside, perfect for summer dining outside. The rooms, though dated in decor, were very clean, with a slight inconvenience of only one plug socket. The service was a bit perfunctory overall but particularly pleasant from the owner in the morning. The location was excellent for accessing the town center and amenities, though some aspects were unclean. The dining experience was mixed, with some pleasant aspects but also room for improvement. Overall, a good value stay with beautiful views and clean rooms.
I stayed in the Annexe, and the rooms were lovely and warm for the kids. They were adequate, with a quite comfortable four-poster bed, although there was no option to adjust the temperature in the room other than opening the window. The separate location from the main building and swimming pool deterred me from using it.
The hotel's rooms were satisfactory but in need of refurbishment, though the rates during peak periods were high. The service was helpful but seemed overwhelmed at times. The location was ideal for town amenities and offered fantastic views. The dining experience was okay, with room for improvement in breakfast options. The facilities were lacking in some areas.
